The Crafting Therapist

The Crafting Therapist: Finding Rhythm in the Making

I have always believed that having a 'downtool' is essential for our mental health. While my passion lies in textiles and fibre, any hobby that allows you to step away from the noise of daily life is a powerful contributor to wellbeing.

For me, the rhythmic, grounding work of my hands is where I find my peace. Whether I am weaving a rug,  spinning yarn for crochet, or sewing a dress, the process is about more than just the finished object. It is about moving at the speed of the thread, not the speed of the world, and finding a sense of calm through simple, repetitive action.

Why "Downtooling" Matters

In our fast-paced world, many people find that when their hands are busy, their minds can finally rest and that is true for many hobbys. For me, I believe that the repetitive, rhythmic motions of spinning, weaving, or crochet aren't just hobbies; they are gentle tools to help steady the mind.

Whether I am upcycling a find from a charity shop or sitting at my spinning wheel, the process is about more than just the finished object. It is about:

  • Grounding: Feeling the texture of the wool or the weight of the fabric.

  • Patience: Moving at the speed of the thread, not the speed of the world.

  • Transformation: Seeing something old or raw become something beautiful and new.

From my Loom to your Home

Everything I create under the name The Crafting Therapist is made with intention. I have a particular love for recycling and upcycling—giving a second life to textiles through rag-rugging and slow-stitch.

I sell a small selection of my handmade pieces, including:

  • Hand-woven items such as scarves, shawls and rag rugs

  • Crocheted items

  • Unique upcycled Pin Cushions and Notions

  • Textile Accessories including upcycled and recycled fabrics and yarns

Creating The Space for Calm

To help you get the most out of your creative time, I have developed a series of specialised audio resources. These are designed to be used before you begin your craft or hobby, helping you to settle your mind, release the day's tension, and move into a state of 'flow.'

These gentle meditations and hypnotherapy tracks provide a quiet space to ground yourself, so that when you settle down to your craft or hobby you do so with a calm heart and a focused mind.

Take a look through the Shop to download a track to suit your needs or take a look in the short complimentary resources to find a meditation just for you.

  • The Maker’s Grounding Prep: A short session to settle your energy before you start.

  • Releasing the Inner Critic: To help you enjoy the process of making without the pressure of perfection.

  • Creative Clarity: A gentle tool to help you find focus before a complex project.
